The Thanksgiving Gang
A Novel of Time Travel - The Sequel to The Gray Ship
It happened again. I didn’t see it coming. I never do.
My name is Jack Thurber, and I’m a time traveler, not a title I thought I’d aspire to, but having done it three times before, I guess it’s who I am. I slipped through wormholes before, once travelling back to the 1920s, once to Pearl Harbor in 1941 while it was being attacked, and once to the Civil War. This is getting old.
But this time it’s different. I’ve tripped into the future, two years to be exact. Moments ago it was 9 AM on July 1, 2015. Now, according to a news ticker on a building, it’s July 1, 2017. I had been walking through an abandoned lot on the East Side of Manhattan doing research for a magazine article for the Washington Times on underutilized real estate, when I stepped on a storm grate.
I felt dizzy, a little nauseated as I always do. The scenery didn’t change much. The lot was still abandoned but it had sprouted two more years-worth of weeds. It was pouring rain. In 2015, a few moments before, it had been a bright day without a cloud in the sky. It’s a strange feeling to step on a grate and go from sunshine to rain in an instant. The gloomy weather wasn’t helping my mood.
I’ve got the drill down by now. The grate was a wormhole, also known as a time portal. Step on it and you’re in for a weird trip. Your world changes fast, very fast. Here’s what I’ve learned When you step through a wormhole, the way to go back is to find the wormhole and just step on it again. So right now I can simply step on the grate and go backwards two years.
But I’m an investigative journalist. How can I pass up a story, even one that I may never tell? Could you resist the urge to know what happened in the past two years? Thank God I resisted the urge to go back.
I took out my phone to call my wife Ashley, but I stopped. There’s no one in the world I like to talk to more than Ashley, but I didn’t want to upset her. A Navy captain, she had just taken command of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, and they’re putting to sea today (today?) for a two-week training cruise.
Then I thought how can I make a phone call two-years into the past? Time travel plays strange tricks with your head.
I’ll call Bennie, of course! Dr. Benjamin Weinberg is a detective and psychiatrist with the New York City Police Department and my best friend. He collaborated with me on a book I wrote about, what else, time travel.
My phone service had been stopped, so I walked into a store and paid cash for a cell phone with pre-purchased minutes.
“Bennie, it’s Jack, Jack Thurber,” I said when he picked up the phone.
***
Jack’s meeting with Bennie was the worst experience of his life. Bennie told him that he was killed on Thanksgiving Day, 2015, along with his wife Ashley and a few thousand other people. Jack was Ashley’s guest on the Lincoln, along with a few other civilians, when a terrorist-planted nuclear bomb exploded, killing everyone aboard. Within five minutes, four other American carriers were nuked by terrorist bombs.
Dare he try to go back and change history? Dare he not?
Jack's got to go back to the past, the past when he and Ashley were still alive. But he knows he needs evidence to convince the government of the past that a tragedy is on its way. To do that he forms a group of people to help him. They call themselves The Thanksgiving Gang.
“Rip roaring, gut wrenching suspense wrapped in a story of friendship and courage.”

The Thanksgiving Gang A Novel of Time Travel The Time Magnet Series Book 2 eBook Russell Moran
This is the sequel to “The Gray Ship”, and stars that book’s main character, Jack Thurber, who is again traveling through time. Thurber’s time traveling adventures have already earned him the title “Time Magnet” but in this episode, he has traveled into the future and discovered the time of his own and his wife’s death. In order to reverse the death and the disastrous circumstances in which he and his wife died, Jack has to go back in time. He enlists the help of a group of other time travelers, The Thanksgiving Gang, to help him in his quest and together they face myriad adventures and deal with the issues that arise in time travel. This is at once a tale of adventure and a thoughtful novel that examines some of the questions raised by the concept of time travel: the issues of changing history to change the future, tinkering with past events and the consequences to the present when the past is changed. I am not generally a fan of science fiction, but I am someone who is intrigued by time travel, and this novel does a great job of exploring the possibilities involved in traveling through time as well as the negative consequences that could result. Absorbing from the first page, I became completely engrossed in this and highly recommend it.Product details

The Thanksgiving Gang A Novel of Time Travel The Time Magnet Series Book 2 eBook Russell Moran Reviews
I enjoyed catching up on the adventures of Jack the time traveler and his lovely wife Ashley. Non-stop action that sounds like something from the 6pm news along with well-developed characters.
All I can say is, thank God this is fiction. Good story and interesting characters. I liked the time line and character identification to start. It made for an easier read.
Looking forward to Jack and Ashley's next "travel" adventure. Some characters I am hoping to meet again.
Another great story of time travel, military operations and Jack Thurber saving the day. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. Russell Moran great book. I hope the next one is longer, I felt that this one was too short. I wanted the bad guys to be captured, but with the climax was more detailed and lengthy
Russell Moran has done it again. The Thanksgiving Gang picks up where The Gray Ship left off. Moran’s latest novel is written in the same fast paced style as his previous award-winning book. The Thanksgiving Gang is the epitome of fiction because the author manages to craft a thoroughly believable and contemporary story from a subject – time travel – that we do not completely understand. Moran has included several of the characters that we met in The Gray Ship, while also introducing some new and interesting participants in the story. The book contains drama, intelligence, humor and even some spice. I am already looking forward to Moran’s next entry in the series.
Well, Russell F. Moran has does it once again in his time-travel novel titled “The Thanksgiving Gang.” It is Moran’s sequel to “The Gray Ship” and the second book of his ‘Time Magnate Series.’ I reviewed “The Gray Ship” back in February of 2014 and gave the story a well-deserved five (5) star rating. If you were to read the ending of my book review referencing Mr. Moran’s first novel, you would note that I concluded with a caveat “If you returned safely from that journey back through time, you’ll want more of Russell F. Moran.” I had added, “Just be sure to take any future journey vicariously.” That warning still stands.
In “The Thanksgiving Gang,” the author reverses his engines and takes you on a journey into the future; July 1, 2017. As we are approximately thirteen months away from that date as of this posting, I strongly suggest that you put aside some time and take the imaginative plunge into time travel immediately if not sooner, especially if you are the adventurous type. You will note that I made it back safely, but not without a heart-pounding jolt or two along the way. You will be reunited with several memorable characters that you may have met in “The Gray Ship.”
In this go-around with those familiars, namely, Jack Thurber, Captain Ashley Patterson [Jack’s new wife], and the no-nonsense but lovable Benjamin [Bennie] Weinberg, the team (comprised of several others) has their work cut out for them. Five nuclear aircraft carriers and the lives of tens of thousands of people depend on the operation’s mission to thwart planned terrorist attacks by jihadists—plans that the terrorists have been groomed for from an early age and trained to carry out imminently.
Both novels may be read independently of one another, but for a more enjoyable rendering, I suggest reading Russell Moran’s ‘Time Magnate Series’ in their given order “The Gray Ship,” “The Thanksgiving Gang,” “A Time of Fear,” “The Skies of Time,” and “The Keepers of Time.” It’s often more rewarding to follow an author in chronological order.
Also, as an aside, this prolific author has continued forward with another body of work designated ‘The Matt Blake Legal-Thriller Series.’ “Sideswiped” and “The Reformers” are his two newest endeavors thus far. What should be of notable interest is that Mr. Moran, Esquire (a consummate lawyer) penned an important nonfiction book titled “Justice in America ~ How it Works – How it Fails.” On October 29th, 2011, I reviewed and rated that book five (5) stars, too, so rest assured that credibility is going to be incorporated upon each and every page of his ‘Legal-Thriller Series.’
In conclusion, I’ll return to the point of credibility as it pertains to Mr. Moran’s first two novels in his ‘Time Magnate Series,’ “The Gray Ship” and “The Thanksgiving Gang.” To embrace the concept of time travel, slipping into and climbing out of wormholes (time portals), entering another dimension of time and space is certainly entertaining. To present it in such a way that it is deemed possible if not believable to the reader takes a definite talent. But to lend persistent verisimilitude to the phenomenon requires a special gift. Jack Thurber must not only convince you, the reader, he also has to persuade a host of government officials that he, indeed, has traveled back in time as well as into the future. The author has his protagonist explain these events quite cleverly to all of us in that he, Jack Thurber, cannot explain the unexplainable. Yet a good many pieces of evidence support the fact that what Thurber says is so. Skeptical or not, the powers that be must form and work together as a team in order to change history and defeat our enemy—the radical Islamists.
Alright! Russell Moran has worked out some of the kinks in his novel writing and has found a better copy editor. He lists the characters just in case readers need a reference because there are so many people in it. It helps if you read the first novel, "The Gray Ship." This novel picks up the story line of the main characters. And what a story it is! Jack Thurber, nicknamed "the Time Magnet," jumps ahead two years in time only to learn that he and his wife died in a terrorist attack on Thanksgiving. He only has a limited time to find the culprits and then go back to thwart the attack, thus saving countless lives, including his own and his wife's. With proper nods to the usual time-travel conundrums of changing history and meeting up with friends who believe you to be dead, this suspenseful story is woven around a spy-detective theme and has a few dashes of humor and romance besides. The plot has enough twists to keep you guessing. I read this in an afternoon and really loved it. Looking forward to more from this author in this series. The time-travel possibilities are endless and as the character of Thurber is more developed, he becomes more likable and believable. So OK! Alright! Bring on the next wormhole! Readers await.
